The Dutch Government is promoting on a grand scale the use of renewable energies for the production of electricity. The target: By the year 2020 a minimum of 10% of the total energy production shall be from renewable energy sources. Already in the year 2009 about 9% of the electricity production shall be based on renewable energies.
One of the most important options is therefore the installation of wind energy power plants at sea. The Dutch Government wants to permit until the year 2020 the realisation of machines with a total capacity of 6,000 MW.

The BARD Engineering GmbH has already applied for a permit for an offshore wind farm in the exclusive economic zone of the Netherlands: BARD Offshore NL 1.
The location is situated about 60 km north of the westfrisian islands Ameland and Schiermonnikoog close to the German border.
The project area is about 50 square kilometres in size and has therefore enough space for the installation of wind energy converters with a total capacity of about 400 megawatt.
We expect to obtain the permit in summer of 2008.
