In Febuary 2008 BARD ordered a special purpose vessel for the maintenance and provisioning of the offshore wind farms. The 26m long ship will be produced by Abeking and Rasmussen in the SWATH@A&R- technology and will be available in 2010. SWATH stands for Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull and describes the special form of the ship body which makes the ship insensitive to sea conditions. The supports based on two torpedo like floating bodies carry the ship and let it look like a catamaran. The SWATH service vessel will be able to safely transport the maintenance crews also in rough sea conditions from the turbines to the habitation area on the transformer platform.
he ship will be outfitted with a special fender, which will dampen the already minor movements of the ship even further when docking at the turbine. The special purpose vessel will be stationed in the wind farm. It has a crew of three and can carry a maximum of 12 passengers as well as four tons of additional weight.
